For my last literate circle, my group had to read chapters 11 through 16. My favorite chapter of the last six ones was chapter 12. This chapter was about Katie. Katie is a 24 year old woman with Down's Syndrome. I liked this chapter because the chapter talks about Katie's life and how she has many of the things that any other person would have. She has a boyfriend and is going to get married, she has a job at McDonald's (at least in the beginning of the chapter) and she has a family that loves her. However in this chapter, there were things that I did not like. The book says that the job at McDonald's won't give Katie a job that is higher on the chain of the restaurant. I felt that this was wrong. I feel that they should of at least let her try and see if she could do it. Also I felt that it was horrible that they stopped giving Katie hours at work. Also I felt that the teacher in this chapter was awful. The teacher told Katie's mom that she had to be in the hospital because she found out that Katie was going to be in her class. I think this is horrible. A disability is not the plague, you can't catch it. I don't understand why people are so rude about/to people with disabilities.
